Massage parlor prostitution is where human trafficking happens in Las Vegas

Most taxi drivers will tell you that the majority of local massage parlors are fronts for prostitution. Many parlors offer male patrons what is called a "Happy Ending,"  or in some cases a "Full Girlfriend Experience" for an extra fee. These specialties are not taught in accredited massage therapy schools.

There are those who suspect certain Strip hotel and casino owners actually condone the nearby massage parlors and escort services that supply a quick release to male casino patrons. The alternative is a five or six hour round trip to Nye County where prostitution is legal.

Casino insiders tell INSIDE VEGAS that trips to Nye County take gamblers away from the tables for too long, so quickies with escorts or Asian masseuses are tolerated in the hotels or just down the street in our town's neighborhood shopping centers.

This may be the reason that Clark County District Attorney David Roger has joined with the NBMT commissioners in ignoring the problem. The commissioners are appointed by the governor. The governor and DA solicit campaign contributions from the casino owners who don't like it when their gamblers lollygag for half the night and spend thousands at Sheri's, or the Chicken Ranch sixty miles away.

(AP) -- A federal appeals court has upheld a Nevada law that bars legal brothels that operate in some of the state's rural areas from advertising in Las Vegas, Reno and other places where prostitution is illegal.

Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto Thursday hailed the ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel in San Francisco, while a lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada promised to appeal.

The laws had been challenged by the ACLU, a Nye County brothel called the Shady Lady Ranch and two newspapers: the High Desert Advocate and Las Vegas City Life.

Prostitution is illegal in Clark and Washoe counties -- which include Las Vegas and Reno -- and three other Nevada counties. Ten Nevada counties authorize prostitution by local ordinance.

The 9th Circuit panel reversed a ruling by U.S. District Court Judge James Mahan in Nevada that two 1979 state laws prohibiting brothel advertising in counties where prostitution is illegal were overly broad and unconstitutional.

WASHINGTON - A woman who lured a 14-year-old North Virginia girl into her hotel room with promises of a glamorous modeling career was trying to recruit the teen into a life of prostitution in Las Vegas, according to FBI officials.

Sin City. Skin City. Las Vegas is flesh city. Billboards everywhere display tempting bodies. At one posh nightclub, the Tao in the Venetian, near-naked girls greet you in perfumed bathwater, roses floating on its surface. Girls shadow dance behind screens at Caesars Palace. The Palms has its Playboy Club. A Penthouse Pet Club has just opened. The city is the haunt of the Implant Babe, Pamela Anderson, and of Carmen Electra, and the cavorting Pussycat Dolls. Rows of topless showgirls in big-stage extravaganzas have been a staple for decades, and the city is famous for its strip clubs—like Crazy Horse and Cheetah´s. Newer clubs are springing up all the time. Topless, and bottomless, venues abound and the city flaunts the beauty of the female body—glossy, shining, naked, or near-naked—images of women as sensually pleasing and arousing objects are everywhere.

NCAST does not think that legalization of prostitution is a solution to the violence in it.  We support a Swedish model law that acknowledges the intrinsic violence of prostituiton and seeks to prevent it by arresting johns and pimps while at the same time offering exit services to women still in it.

Nevada is the only state in the US that allows legal prostitution, but in its largest city, Las Vegas, prostitution is illegal. When the mayor suggested changing the law, it sparked a huge debate.

Mayor Oscar Goodman grabs the headlines whatever he says or does - and he relishes it. He is proud of Las Vegas' image as "Sin City" and happily calls it "an adult playground".
